Have you made any? I have. Just one. I'm going to work on a book that's been languishing half-finished in my files for a couple of years. When I began writing this book I was completely enamored with it, but that was, I see now, my biggest mistake. I fell in love with the book before it was written. Then, the writing came hard. So, like a relationship that didn't quite work, I walked away.
Now I see my lapse in judgement. Reviving the manuscript won't be easy, but it is my New Year's resolution, to see it through to its completion.
What about you? What are you tackling in '08?

Snow!
Ah, the life of a romance writer is so, so, soooo exciting, right? Sure, I know you think I lounge around all day long in a lace teddy, eating bon bons and shivering with anticipation as I swirl page after page of romantic escapades magically from the ends of my fingers. It is what you imagine, isn't it? Come on, you can tell me...
HA! Think again, my friend! Today I'll be wearing my snowpants, scarf, hat, down jacket, big boots and mittens. No lace teddy. I'll be gulping strong black coffee when I dash into the garage to refill the gas tank on the snowblower. And I'll not be swirling anything magical from my frozen fingertips. I'll be pushing the snowblower, dreaming of hot, sultry summer days.
Yeah, the life of a romance writer is often far from romantic!

Making Christmas Cookies today!
Thought I'd share the recipe for my favorites! Enjoy!!
Lemon Fingers
1 cup butter
3 ounces cream cheese
1 cup granulated sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon grated lemon rind
yellow food coloring
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
Blend butter and cream cheese. Add sugar and cream until fluffy. Combine egg, lemon juice, lemon rind and yellow food coloring. Add to butter mixture.
Sift the flour and baking powder and add to creamed mixture. Chill in refrigerator for about 10 minutes.
Use cookie press to shape dough into "fingers" or strips, about three inches long, onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 375 degrees F for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned.

No writing, only shopping!
Yep, I'm completely into holiday shopping. I actually have most of my family living very far from me so I've got to mail everything. And if it's going to get out in time, I've got to start early.
I'm having a blast shopping for everyone but I'm stuck on what to give Granny Harriet. Think she'd like a copy of Canyon's Call? Or maybe Aphrodite's Charms?
They'd liven things up in the nursing home, that's for sure! :)

Heating up the holidays!
Have you read HALFPIPE ROMANCE from Phaze Publishing?
It's getting awesome reviews!
From Zoe at Sensual Reads & Reviews:
"What Molly knows about snowboarding should have been enough to keep her far away from the winter sport. Despite her clumsy ineptness at any sport requiring a board she agrees to go snowboarding with her boyfriend...
Kate burns does a fantastic job at keeping the reader hooked through out the story. The frustrations and sexual tension could be felt in Halfpipe Romance. I found it to be a marvelous read."
Why not pick up your copy today? I know it'll heat up your holidays! Snowboarding, anyone?

Harry Potter sells big!
I love this morning's article about the autographed Harry Potter selling for nearly $41,000 at auction. What an incredible thing to have happen! I'll bet JK Rowling never figured that would happen when she put her John Hancock on the page of this book. How cool!
Read the entire article here. It gives all of us writers something to aspire to, doesn't it?

Nicole Richie looks beautiful in a bikini!
I'm like everyone else. I look at the entertainment headlines. This morning Nicole Richie and her baby belly caught my eye. Why? Because she looks so beautifully healthy in a yellow bikini. The way she's sitting poolside, looking content, is heartwarming. I'm so happy she's found a reason to smile--and eat. :)
See Nicole and baby bump here.
If you're like me, the photo will make you smile!

Canyon's Call in print!
.jpg)
Canyon's Call will be available for pre-order from Phaze Publishing on November 5th! Carrie and Jake are going to print! WOO HOO!!!
The blurb:
Carrie Reed, a highly respected genetic veterinary specialist, has it all: asuccessful practice, fame in her chosen field, money and a body that mostwomen would give their eye teeth for. But she's got no male prospects insightand a mother that loves to remind Carrie that her biological clock isn't onlyticking--it's screaming. So when Jake Canyon phones he commands herattention. His voice is sexy, his tone is hot and he insists there is anew species ofanimal roaming around on his Alaskan ranch. Would she come and identify itfor him? Of course she will! Carrie knows that even if there isn't a newspecies to be found, a voice like Jake's is definitely worth investigating!
Four angels from Fallen Angels Reviews:
"I loved the wildness and the roughness of the Alaskan state. From the way
it was described it is a beautiful place and it went perfectly with the
story.
The characters were brought to life in a way that you couldn’t forget,
especially at the end of the story and I would like to see more stories
from Ms. Burns. Alaska is a state that I have always wanted to visit and despite some of Carrie's "wanting people to stay out of Alaska" this book really
makes me want to go to Alaska. Great job on the story Ms. Burns."
Four lips from Two Lips Reviews:
"I loved the premise of this story and I was entranced by author Kate
Burns'beautiful descriptions of the Alaskan countryside and the unique way in
which the ranch is run in harmony with nature.
I liked the way author Kate Burns keeps us guessing right up to the end. If you enjoy the great outdoors and lots and lots of hot sex scenes, Canyon's Call will be a satisfying read. I certainly enjoyed it."

Reading
If I say I love to read, I don't think anyone will be surprised. But I do. Love to read, that is. In a big way. Lately I've been devouring books. Just can't seem to get them fast enough. Load them in my reader and hit the beach.
Last night I read GEORGIE AND HER DRAGON by Sahara Kelly. I loved it! Fantasy and humor all in a quick and easy read. Just too good.
Now, what shall I read today? Any ideas?

Stephen King
I finished reading The Stand for the gazillionth time last night. Anyone else a fan? God, I love the way that man writes! He scares the bejeezus out of me every time, even though I'm usually rereading so I know what's going to happen next. It's not as if I'm clueless, but still...he scares the crap out of me.
I love to be scared. Maybe that's why October, with its scary goblins, ghosts and the like, is my favorite month?
Boo!
